Make your GIF

Choose a short moment. Your video stays on this device, with no signup or watermark.

Select 0.2–15 seconds. Preview the selected clip before converting.

The first conversion downloads a video engine of about 31 MB. GIFs loop without sound and can be larger than the original video.

How to convert video to GIF

Start with a moment that works without sound. A few seconds is often enough for a useful loop.

  1. 1

    Choose a video

Select an MP4, WebM, MOV or M4V from your device. The tool checks its duration and dimensions before you convert.

  2. 2

    Trim the moment

Set the start and end time for a clip up to 15 seconds. Use the selected-clip preview to check where the action begins and ends.

  3. 3

    Balance detail and file size

Choose a maximum width and frame rate. Shorter clips, smaller dimensions and fewer frames usually produce lighter GIFs.

  4. 4

    Convert, preview and download

The converter creates a looping animation on your device. Check the finished GIF and file size, then save your download.

A product detail, a quick reaction or a two-step demonstration can work well as a short loop. Cut away the lead-in, keep the action clear and test the result at its final size. GIF loses sound and some color detail, so keep your original video for future edits.

Small animations, practical uses

Use a GIF when a still image misses the action and a short silent loop does the job.

Product demonstrations

Show a simple feature or before-and-after moment that visitors can understand without pressing play or hearing audio.

Tutorials and support

Turn a short screen recording into a repeating instruction for a help article, team message or documentation page.

Newsletters and websites

Add a small animation where GIF is supported. Keep the file light and make the first frame useful when animation cannot play.

Social content planning

Prepare a short visual idea, then choose GIF or video based on what your destination accepts. Keep the source clip for platforms that need MP4.

Video to GIF questions, answered

How do I convert a video to GIF?

Choose a video from your device, enter the start and end time for a clip of 0.2 to 15 seconds, and choose the output width and frame rate. Preview the selected clip, select Convert to GIF, then download the finished animation. There is no signup or watermark.

Can I convert MP4 to GIF?

Yes. MP4 encoded with H.264 is a useful starting point. The tool also accepts WebM, MOV and M4V files, but the video must be readable by both your browser and the converter. A filename extension alone does not identify the codec. If a file cannot be read, try an H.264 MP4 export from your video editor.

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. Your selected video is read and converted locally in your browser. The first conversion downloads a video engine of about 31 MB from Social Magnum; it does not upload your footage. Clear removes the video and result from this page. Files you have already downloaded remain on your device.

How do I make the GIF smaller?

Shorten the selected clip first, then try a maximum width of 320 pixels or a frame rate of 5 fps. Fewer frames and fewer pixels usually reduce the file size. Detailed, fast-moving footage tends to produce larger files than a simple scene. Compare the downloaded result with the original; converting to GIF does not guarantee a smaller file.

What are the file and duration limits?

Choose one video up to 50 MB, no longer than 5 minutes, and up to 4K resolution with a maximum of 4,096 pixels on either side. Select a GIF clip between 0.2 and 15 seconds. Output width is capped at 320, 480 or 640 pixels, and output height at 640 pixels. GIF downloads over 30 MB are rejected with advice to reduce the settings.

Does the GIF keep the original audio?

No. GIF is an image format and does not carry an audio track. The exported animation loops continuously without sound. Keep or edit the MP4 if speech, music or other audio is important to the clip.

Will the animation look exactly like my video?

GIF uses a limited color palette and the selected frame rate, so gradients, motion and fine detail can change. The tool preserves the aspect ratio without upscaling. The selected trim is re-encoded, and the duration is rounded to output frame intervals. Review the preview and downloaded file before publishing.

Can I use the converter on a phone?

The layout works on small screens, but conversion depends on browser codec support and available memory. Start with a short, small video on a phone. If conversion fails or times out, choose a smaller file or try a desktop browser. Large videos need more memory even when the selected GIF is short.

Can I paste a YouTube or social media video link?

No. This tool converts a video file you choose from your own device. It does not fetch videos from URLs. Use footage you own or have permission to reuse.

Should I use a GIF or keep the video?

GIF works well for short silent demonstrations, reactions and loops where the destination supports animation. Keep a video for longer clips, sound, smoother motion or more efficient compression. Some social platforms treat GIFs differently or require a video upload, so check the destination before publishing.
