Yes. The main count includes spaces, tabs, punctuation and line breaks. The separate Without whitespace count excludes spaces, tabs, newlines and other whitespace, including non-breaking spaces. Each line break is treated as one character. A trailing line break adds an empty line to the line count.

The main count measures visible character units, called grapheme clusters. A family emoji or an emoji with a skin tone normally counts as one. A letter combined with an accent also counts as one visible character. Platforms may count the same text differently, which is why we show separate platform cards and encoding details.

It applies X’s published standard-post weighting and the official twitter-text URL detector. Recognised links use 23 characters each. Emoji use two, and text is normalised to NFC for this count only. The card covers a standalone 280-character post, not Premium long posts or automatically inserted reply mentions. Your original text is preserved when copied.

Bluesky’s post schema limits text to 300 grapheme clusters and 3,000 UTF-8 bytes. A long sequence of combining marks can use many bytes while appearing as one character. The card checks both limits and warns if either is exceeded.

It is an estimate against the documented 3,000-character post limit. The referenced LinkedIn API documentation does not define how it measures Unicode characters. We use UTF-16 units conservatively, so an emoji can use two or more. Check your finished draft in LinkedIn, especially near the limit. This card is for posts, not articles, comments or profile fields.

Yes. The general counter works for any text, and the custom limit lets you set your own target. That custom target uses visible characters; it does not reproduce an unlisted platform’s counting rules. Check the destination’s current limit before publishing.

Word counting uses your browser’s Unicode-aware word segmentation and counts word-like segments, rather than simply splitting on spaces. Punctuation and emoji alone are not words. Chinese, Japanese and other languages without spaces are supported, though segmentation can differ between browser versions and writing tools.

The counter processes your draft in your browser. It does not send your text for counting or store it in a database or browser storage. Clear empties the editor; reloading starts a new draft. Copy puts the text on your clipboard only when you choose it.

The tool handles drafts up to 20,000 UTF-16 units to keep counting responsive. Most letters use one unit, while many emoji use two or more. Larger input stays in the editor with a clear message and no partial counts, so you can shorten or copy it without losing text.
